Identifying Engine Mechanical Problems with Electronic Tools .Today, in-cylinder pressure transducers are changing how technicians evaluate the mechanical condition of an engine. The instructor will discuss how to interpret cranking and running compression patterns captured by an in-cylinder pressure transducer. We will study both good and bad. We will analyze exhaust path restrictions, cam timing issues, leaking valves, broken valve springs and much more. We will also discuss the use of overlays for detailed pattern analysis. The attending technician will learn how to analyze and interpret these information filled patterns. The use of these techniques can save a tremendous amount of diagnostic time and teardown time. A detailed handout will be provided.

Fuel systems are constantly evolving on today’s vehicles including newer technologies such as GDI (Gas Direct Injection).

This course will bring in depth and practical information to technicians on;

  • Using current draw (meter) and current ramping (scope) to diagnose fuel pressure problems quickly and accurately
  • The benefits of testing fuel pressure AND volume when diagnosing fuel delivery problems
  • Flex fuel systems, system contamination, and performing a fuel pump ‘autopsy’ to prevent comebacks
  • GDI system operation, control strategies, and common service issues such as HP pump wear and carbon deposits
  • Diagnosing GDI systems by analyzing the low pressure and high pressure side of the system
  • Fuel injector waveform analysis for both SFI and GDI injectors
