Arizona Green Shops

Green City - Green Garage Challenge - Clean CityVoluntary Environmental Stewardship Program logo

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality consolidates its green shop program into the newly formed Voluntary Environmental Stewardship Program.

State statute (A.R.S.) §49-192 required the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to develop, implement and manage a Voluntary Environmental Stewardship Program (VESP) in 2012. This program identifies and rewards organizations that have a good history of compliance, and try to go above and beyond legal requirements. ADEQ strives to complement existing programs with new tools and strategies that not only protect people and the environment, but also recognize opportunities for reducing cost and encouraging technological innovation.

Organizations and businesses are invited to join VESP to work together on environmental quality issues and support ADEQ’s mission - to protect and enhance public health and the environment in Arizona. Membership incentives for joining VESP include: recognition, reduced inspection frequency, conferences, early notice of enforcement rulings, advance inspection notice, reduced reporting requirements, and coordination of multiple on-site inspections. Members will be invited to participate in discussions about incentives that might be added to the program.

Automotive repair facilities can be part of this program, by simply filling out an application and submitting it to ADEQ.  There is no fee and no inspection.  ADEQ will process the application and verify the application before certifying the facility.  A certificate will be awarded and if the shop is an ASA member, your shop will be listed below as a Green Shop.  Download application and submit to ADEQ.

Below is the list of ASA members that have been approved for Green Shop by ADEQ. Also note the shops that have gone the extra step to become VESP shops (this is the most recent certification by ADEQ).
